Leo
Leo- Began sailing Optis when he was 5 ½ years old. He will be starting his second year of racing in the fleet this summer. Leo has an unquenchable curiosity. When he is not disassembling items around the house, or building a creation out of Legos, he is watching his favorite TV shows such as “Nova”, “Mythbusters” or “How It’s Made”. Having made several overnight passages on the family sailboat, he seems to have a realistic outlook towards the upcoming race. Lack of sleep, he feels, will be one of the biggest challenges of the race. The thrill of watching big boats really close to one another will help combat exhaustion, but a collision is also probably my biggest fear, he says. The take away from this event for Leo… “a better understanding of the rules of racing.”

Daniel
Since he was born, Daniel has been around sail boats. He sailed his first regatta with his parents at just ten months old!! (Hey- what else are you gonna do when the babysitter falls through?) He enjoys sailing in Optis, Lasers, and Thistles at his home sail club where he is also active in the junior sailing program – but he is now ready for a bigger adventure. A master of all things electronic, he has the makings of a modern navigator! His cub-scouting experience will be an asset to him as he embarks on perhaps the greatest journey of his life to date.

Tommy
Tommy- Was introduced to the sport of sailing at the early age of 5 after his father finally caved in to Tommy’s repeated requests to go to his weekday and weekend yacht races. Although his first race included sailing through a thunderstorm, Tommy continued to accompany his Dad to a number of races. Tommy loves to learn and figure out how and why things work, welcoming challenges, and working tirelessly to reach a proper solution. He LOVES big adventures especially when those adventures are on the water with his family and friends. Sailing during the night, he feels, will be his biggest challenge of the race. However, he wants to “learn more about navigation, & where the wind comes from,” he says. And when asked what his biggest take away will be... “Finishing the race with my Dad, and all of my friends; then eating Fudge on the island with them.”

Ryan
Since moving to Michigan in 2010, Ryan was immediately drawn to the waters of Lake St. Clair. Last summer, at age 10, he was first introduced to sailing. Ryan had the chance to race on a Frers 36 at several local regattas and was also introduced to Lasers. These experiences have developed an interest to pursue sailing as a sport. Ryan is excited to learn more by participating in the youth sail program at CSYC and by sailing as part of a team in the Makinac Race.

Colin
Colin moved to Michigan and discovered lake living at the age of 4. His first experience with sailing was on Lasers at the age of 7. He was immeditely bitten by the “sailing bug.” Colin can’t wait to get invovled in racing and this summer is going to participate in the youth sail program at CSYC with his older brother, Ryan.

Stuart
Stuart was born in Arkansas before moving to Michigan at the age of three; strangely enough he speaks with an English accent (his Dad's fault!) He has been on several sailing trips throughout his life, from racing on Lake St Clair to cruising in the British Virgin Islands. Stuart's main passion is the Tang Soo Do form of karate and is presently a 3rd gup Red Belt with a goal to be Black Belt in a few years. He is developing leadership skill by Junior Leading beginner karate classes and also studies various weapons training with Nunchaka being his favorite. Stuart loves math and problem solving of any sort which coupled with his focus and drive are a perfect combination for the challenge of completing his first "Mac".
